Sankofa is a Ghanaian symbol: ‘Go back and get it’, meaning learning from the past to improve the future. During the ArtCrawl Harlem artist residency on Governors Island, I researched the African Burial Grounds to put them on the map, paying respect to the enslaved people who built this city.
