helen of bikini
Helen of BikiniOperation Crossroads was a series of two nuclear weapon tests at Bikini Atoll. 'Baker' was the second one, on July 25, 1946. The bomb, called Helen of Bikini, was detonated 90 feet (27 m) underwater. Radioactive sea spray caused extensive contamination. The third planned test was cancelled primarily because of the U.S. Navy's inability to decontaminate the target ships after the Baker test.
Bikini's native residents agreed to evacuate the island. They never returned.
